Weightwatchers and going for an Indian

Going out in about half an hour for an Indian meal. I know most of the curries on offer will be pretty high in fat. What would be my best option for a low point meal?

  • I'm guessing keeping to things without sauces would be the best option. Go for the dry Tandooris. But since you are doing WW. Wouldn't it be wise to save the majority of your points for that night out, and keep to the very basics during the rest of the week. That's what I used to do.

  • Go for the dryer dishes like chicken schaslik.

Depending on how a curry is cooked,it does not need to have fat in it. I don't use oil or ghee when I cook mine.

my advice? eat what you want tonight and start again tomorrow!

if you are wanting to stick to it though, go for tandoori chicken (dry) - 6 points, plain basmati rice - 6.5 points or pilau rice - 8 points, some salad - 0 points and some raita - 1/2 point per teaspoon.

  • Ditto JOHNOR. I love Lamb Biryani and the free veg curry that goes with it, plus a stuffed nan or paratha. I've got it down to a four times a year treat now including for my birthday.

  • As promised news of my weight loss following the indian meal. To be honest I am stunned still haven't got over it........I have lost 8 1/2 lbs!!!! The most I have lost in a week is 4lbs and that was when I first started and I have only done that once. Perhaps I should go for an indian every week!!!!

Nothing wrong with the bread itself, just that it is always slathered in ghee, a kind of calorie-enhanced butter.

  • I don't calorie count so much, just avoid carbs. I usually have a spinach/cauliflower bajee and a main without rice.

Peshwari nan, being sweeter has even more calories than a normal nan, typically >500 in the bread alone...better getting a chapati

Some people practice "calorie cycling" dramatically varying the amount of calories they consume per day ( but still averaging out less than their daily allowance ), this seems to help speed up the metabolism. You may have given your metabolism a boost with the Indian meal...plus spicy food does tend to help speed up the metabolism

  • Spicy food DO speed up the metabolism! My metabolism is naturally fast so I lose weigh easily but even more lately as I was snacking on rice cakes or something like that with chilli or spicy salsa dip almost every night watching soaps or movies. I don't do that every night now lol
